Ecology
- ecosystem: all the living and non-living components, and all of the interactions among them
- biotic: the living components in an ecosystem
- abiotic: the non-living components in an ecosystem including water, temperature, and sunlight
- introduced species: an organism that is accidentally or purposely brought into an area where it has been been before
- invasive species: introduced species that cause or have the ability to cause harm to the environment or people
- food chain: a single path showing how nutrients and energy are passed from creature to creature (Food chains begin with plant-life and end with animal-life)
- food web: a complex path showing how plants and animals are interconnected with each other
- decomposers: break down dead plants and animals (examples: fungi, bacteria, earthworms)
- consumers: get energy by consuming other organisms (examples: grasshoppers, rabbits, hawks, etc.)
- producers: organism that make their own food (example: plants)
